I suppose I've always thought about teaching, but never seriously considered it until recent years when the question has come up more and more often: "Do you teach classes?" The question has been in relation to oil painting, as well as my creative (and spiritual) process. While I'm open to teaching oil painting, I like to remind people that I am self-taught and therefore can't give any credentials other than the body of work presented here on my website. Also, I prefer to teach painting as an ongoing, one-on-one mentorship, rather than in a classroom setting. However, I am very interested in teaching about creativity and spiritual alchemy. Over the years I've developed a personal practice that involves a myriad of techniques from many spiritual and esoteric traditions. It is something I've developed from the time I was a small child, that has brought me through many intense trials and experiences that have awakened my kundalini and transformed the way that I relate to myself, others, and the collective consciousness. My studies of hermetic alchemy have deepened this experience and provided a framework for further understanding. The positive effect that this has had on my life has been profound, and I would like to offer what I know to others that are pursuing truth.

When I was a teenager, I came across a quote from the Buddha that has informed my relationship to learning ever since:

“Therefore, be ye lamps unto yourselves, be a refuge to yourselves. Hold fast to Truth as a lamp; hold fast to the truth as a refuge. Look not for a refuge in anyone beside yourselves. And those, who shall be a lamp unto themselves, shall betake themselves to no external refuge, but holding fast to the Truth as their lamp, and holding fast to the Truth as their refuge, they shall reach the topmost height.”

While eager to learn and absorb knowledge, I always felt it necessary to experience things for myself before fully believing in anything. So my study has also involved practice that has provided me with enough personal experiences to speak from a place of understanding. I'm also well aware that I really know nothing at all, and that the mystery surrounding us is infinitely deep. If there's anything I can teach, then, perhaps it is how to find your own personal magic that helps you to dissolve the barriers of conditioning between you and your own truth.
