Creative Alchemy
The Royal Art as a Spiritual-Creative Process
Taught by Marlene Seven Bremner
Live on Zoom*
Thursdays at 5 pm MT
January 23 - February 20
-
Known as the “Royal Art,” alchemy teaches us how to transmute our life into a masterpiece through the profound interplay of consciousness and matter. Whether we are working with materials in an alchemical laboratory, writing poetry, composing music, painting, or simply wanting to live a more creative life, alchemy is the key to unlocking the vast potential and unlimited imagination that lives within us.
This five-part course will explore Hermetic Alchemy as the practice of bringing something to its final perfection. Students will learn how this royal art unifies the inner and outer worlds and provides a process to integrate spirit and matter.
We begin with the legendary Emerald Tablet of Hermes Trismegistus and developing an understanding of alchemical creation, and the miraculous transmutations of the “One Thing.” From here we will cover alchemical theory and cosmology, including the prima materia or mysterious “first matter,” the anima mundi or “world soul,” the four elements, the tria prima or “three principles,” and the seven planetary metals. We will discuss the principle of correspondence and the relationships between the macrocosm and microcosm, and how to work with these relationships in alchemical and magical practice.
The student will learn about the lapis philosophorum, or philosopher’s stone: what it is, where to find it, and how it can be perfected through the four stages of the Great Work.
Together we will embark on an in-depth discussion of each stage of the Great Work and the twelve alchemical processes, and how they can be understood and navigated for spiritual growth, deeper self-knowledge, reconciliation of the opposites, and the liberation of our full creative potential.
The first class will introduce the student to the Hermetic foundations of alchemy and essentials of alchemical theory
The next four classes bring the student through the four stages of the magnum opus (great work) of alchemy through the lens of the creative process:
Stage 1: Nigredo (“Blackening”) — Putrefaction and the dark night of the soul
Stage 2: Albedo (“Whitening”) — Dissolution in the lunar waters
Stage 3: Citrinitas (“Yellowing”) — Coagulation and solar inspiration
Stage 4: Rubedo (“Reddening”) — Multiplication and projection of the philosopher’s stoneApplicable to all forms of creative expression
No experience in art or alchemy required
No materials required, just bring your Self

In this eight-part series, students will be immersed in an in-depth exploration of the seven traditional planets visible to the naked eye: Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Venus, Mercury, the Moon, and the Sun. These seven “Wandering Stars” are a crucial component of the Hermetic arts of Astrology, Magic, and Alchemy.
Students will be given a comprehensive understanding of the planets and the various ways that they express their energies in both the individual and the collective psyche, as well as a variety of techniques for communing with the planets for greater self awareness, self expression, and understanding of these important archetypal and cosmic forces.
Through this series of courses, students will learn how planetary energies manifest in daily life, how to work with them in practical ways, and how to understand their placement in the birth chart. Students will be introduced to alchemical and magical practices for fostering personal relationships with the planets as well as transmuting their more challenging aspects.

This opportunity to study the seven classical planets through myth, magic, and alchemy provided a new lens for inner growth. It helped to unify and grow my previously disparate understanding of these subjects. I would recommend this class to anyone interested in the occult, self-knowledge, and transformation.
—Evan KottleThe 7 classical planets through myth, magic and alchemy simply provides every instrument that is needed to conduct your own personal Musica Universalis. One of the most significant insights of my life regarding my place in that Symphony has come from this course.
—Eternally grateful, Glenn Walker -
